The Unconditional Love of Pets

We had to put one of our dogs, Mickey, down last week. We had him from a puppy. He was 13 1/2 years old and cancer took over. One blessing was that there was not a doubt in my mind that it was time.

One of the most pure forms of conditional love is that of our pets. Every pet I’ve ever had has had their own unique personality, but all of them have taught me so much about love. They forgive so easily. They take care of us when we’re sad. They play with us when we’re happy. They just want to be with us and are grateful to have our time and attention.

Mickey had the best last week of his life. We were in a winter storm and couldn’t leave the house. We spent the entire week cuddled under a blanket on the couch.
My heart is big and full. I am hoping, for both me and our other dog, Pluto, that by the time this posts, I’ll have another furry body to cuddle up with. Give your pets an extra cuddle to day in honor of Mickey.
